Shaping the future together.
Carl Orff was one of the most important composers of the 20th century. In addition to the world-famous Carmina Burana, there are many other musical treasures to discover.
Carl Orff discovered his love for theatre and music at an early age. Finding his own musical language and new approaches to theatre was a major challenge for the young composer in the years following his training.
Until the premiere of Carmina Burana, Orff searched for his own distinctive compositional style. His musical language is characterised by strong rhythmic sounds. Orff wrote the libretti or designed the stage sets for many of his works himself. His artistic oeuvre includes several songs, smaller orchestral works and 14 stage works, which he divided into different groups: Lamenti, Trionfi, fairy tales, Bavarian world theatre, Greek dramas and De temporum fine comoedia as a final individual work.
Orff composed and wrote primarily for the stage – for the grand opera stage as well as for drama.
At COMU, you have the opportunity to listen to his diverse works. You can explore his conception of music and theatre and learn how Orff composed.
