A roof for its birthday. The Carl Orff Foundation celebrates 10 July 2024 with a topping-out ceremony.

In June, the time had finally come: the new building of the COMU Carl Orff Museum at Ziegelstadel 1 in Dießen got a new roof. Construction workers used two cranes to lift 11 tonnes of vaulted ceiling onto the large exhibition hall.

Almost 70 years after Carl Orff himself celebrated the extension of his house at Ziegelstadel 1, another topping-out ceremony took place. Pupils from the Carl Orff School in Dießen opened the celebration with songs. Secretary General Judith Janowski then welcomed those present and expressed her particular thanks to all the sponsors who have generously supported the museum. Last but not least, site manager Torsten Huhle from the contractor Lutzenberger, foreman Christoph Meyer and concrete expert Lukas Schröther gave the topping-out speech and emptied their glasses three times to the applause of the guests: ‘May the museum be a place of knowledge, wonder and inspiration, where history comes alive and knowledge flourishes.’

Following the ceremony, celebrations took place in the courtyard of the Orff estate. Guests were able to enjoy food and drink. At an improvised table with instruments and playing cards, they had the opportunity to test a hands-on station of the future museum for the first time and sing a birthday song to Carl Orff.
